Grand Canyon National Park

Arizona

Grand Canyon: More Than One Rim—Yep, There Are Four!

✔️ South RimDone it! Most popular, easiest access, best for first-timers.
🌲 North RimNext trip’s plan! Quieter, more rugged, cooler temps, and you can hike down to the river.
🪞 West Rim – Home of the Skywalk (that glass bridge over a 4,000 ft drop—if you're brave enough).
🌅 East Rim/Desert View Drive – Scenic route from South Rim with epic overlooks and fewer crowds.

Bonus: Lees Ferry (east of park) a river rafting launch site- you can drive to the riverbank!

🏜️ Canyon Adventures Galore:

Hiking (Bright Angel or South Kaibab = classics); Mule Rides; Helicopter Tours; Raft the Colorado River (still on my bucket list!); Ranger Programs & Stargazing – The skies here? Next-level.

🛏️ Where to Stay Inside the Park:
Book through nps.gov/grca or grandcanyonlodges.com via Xanterra.

🏨 Lodges:

  • El Tovar Hotel – Historic, elegant, right on the rim.

  • Bright Angel Lodge – Cozy, classic cabins.

  • Yavapai Lodge – Modern motel feel, walkable to everything (we had marmots and deer outside—bonus wildlife experience!).

⛺ Camping:

  • Mather Campground (South Rim)

  • North Rim Campground

  • Desert View Campground

🍴 Where to Eat:

  • El Tovar Dining Room – Fine dining, iconic rim views.

  • Arizona Steakhouse – Big flavors, canyon charm.

  • Canyon Village Market Deli – Grab-and-go fuel.

  • Yavapai Tavern – Fire pits, patio vibes, full bar, casual southwest fare (we loved it!).

🌞 Pro Tips:

  • Hydrate like a pro – South Rim sits at 7,000+ ft and that dry heat sneaks up fast.

  • Best photo light? Early morning or golden hour—skip midday when it's all glare.

  • Plan ahead – Lodging, tours, and shuttles fill up fast.

  • Cell service? Spotty at best—download maps and info before you go.
